The 1. FC Köln has strengthened its squad by acquiring Lina Szaraz, a talented defender from the German U19 national team. The 17-year-old player has signed a contract that will keep her at the club until summer 2028.
Lina Szaraz, originally from Bremen, joined the U17 team of Werder Bremen at the age of 14 in 2022. She signed her first professional contract with the club last summer. Although she has not yet played in the Bundesliga, she was included in the matchday squad for a game against Bayer Leverkusen. Szaraz did make an impression in the DFB-Pokal first-round match against SC Victoria Hamburg, where she started and assisted on two goals in a 7-0 victory.
This move marks the first time Szaraz will play outside of Bremen. She expressed her gratitude for joining 1. FC Köln, stating that she is excited about the positive first impression and the new challenge ahead. Szaraz believes the club will help her grow both personally and as a player.
Nicole Bender-Rummler, head of women's and girls' football at 1. FC Köln, highlighted Szaraz's potential, describing her as a young defender with great development prospects. Bender-Rummler noted Szaraz's strong left foot, physicality, and determination in tackles as key attributes that will benefit the team.
