Atlético de Madrid has a new coach. José Herrera takes over after Víctor Martín left.
Atlético de Madrid made a change in their coaching staff after some hard weeks. The club said goodbye to head coach Víctor Martín. They brought in José Herrera to lead the team for the rest of the season.
The team did not win any matches for more than two months. Things got worse after a 0:3 loss to Real Madrid in the semifinals of the Spanish Supercopa. This made the club decide to act fast.
Víctor Martín came back to Atlético in the summer of 2024. He led the team in 65 official matches during his second time there. Even though his time ended suddenly, he had good results. He took the team to the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the Copa de la Reina final in his first season.
José Herrera is from the Canary Islands. He will lead the team until the end of the season. He has a big job ahead with 13 league matches left. There are also quarterfinals of the Copa de la Reina against Athletic Club and Champions League playoffs against Manchester United.
The club points to Herrera's wide experience at home and abroad. He spent two years at Al-Hilal not long ago. He has also coached teams like Granada and Tenerife. The club hopes he will bring calm to the team and help them start winning again.
