Hamburger SV has brought back midfielder Paulina Bartz on loan from Bayer 04 Leverkusen until the end of the current season. The 20-year-old returns to a club she already knows well and is expected to strengthen the midfield options right away.
Bartz played for HSV in the 2021/22 season and left a positive mark during that time. Now she gets another chance to show her skills for the Hamburg team and support them in the league.
During her first spell at HSV, Bartz took part in important promotion matches, including tense games against Turbine Potsdam. These matches helped her grow as a player at a young age and gave her early experience in high-pressure situations.
Because of these memories, returning to HSV feels natural for her. She knows the club, the training ground, and many people around the team, which should help her settle in quickly.
After playing for Eimsbütteler TV, Bartz moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2023 and entered a fully professional setup. There she trained daily in a strong squad and learned to play at a higher level.
This season she appeared in five Bundesliga matches and two DFB-Pokal games for Leverkusen. She often came on as a substitute, but still gained useful minutes and learned to handle fast, physical football at the top level.
HSV department head Saskia Breuer is confident that Bartz will improve the squad. Breuer describes her as a young player with clear potential who has already played top-level football in Germany.
According to Breuer, Bartz is strong going forward and reads the game very well. HSV hopes that her offensive movement, pressing, and passing will give the team more ideas and energy in attack.
For Bartz, the move is more than just a normal transfer. She says that coming back to HSV feels like coming home and that she is happy to see many familiar faces again at the club.
Her main goal is to get more playing time than she recently had at Leverkusen and to help HSV reach its targets this season. She also looks forward to playing at Volksparkstadion, where she has only played as an opponent before.
Bartz also brings important international experience with her. She has made more than 40 appearances for Germany’s junior national teams in different age groups.
In 2022, she was part of the Germany U17 side that won the European Championship. Several of her teammates from that successful tournament now also play for HSV, which should make it easier for her to fit into the team both on and off the pitch.
