Temwa Chawinga may not play soon for Kansas City Current. She is hurt and on the injury list.
Temwa Chawinga is a main forward for the Kansas City Current. She got hurt in her adductor muscle during a game against the Houston Dash on October 18. That was near the end of the 2025 NWSL regular season. The injury stopped her from playing the last game and the playoffs.
Chawinga did well before the injury. She scored 15 goals to win the Golden Boot award. She was also named the Most Valuable Player and made the Best XI team. She helped her team a lot all season.
Head coach Chris Armas says the team is careful with Chawinga's recovery. He said, "It’s hard because of the nature of the injury. With Temwa, we’ve got to be very careful, but she’s looking great and doing lots of good work on the return to play."
Michelle Cooper is another forward who is hurt. She is also on the Season-Ending Injury list. Cooper scored six goals and had three assists in the season. She hurt her foot in the last regular season game.
Players start training today, Saturday. The team plays its first 2026 game at home against the Utah Royals on March 14. That is 147 days after Chawinga's injury. Armas said the team might start without Chawinga and Cooper. He added, "We’ll know more in the next few weeks."
The Season-Ending Injury list helps teams with their salary cap while players get better. Players can return with doctor approval, but there are rules on when. Armas hopes both players come back soon, but no one knows the exact time.
