Geyse is leaving Manchester United to sign for Club América in Mexico. Manchester United are now working to bring in young striker Ellen Wangerheim as a replacement option up front.
Geyse, a 27-year-old forward, is leaving Manchester United to join Club América in Mexico. She moved to United from Barcelona in August 2023 for a record transfer fee, worth around 3000000 EUR. In her first season in England, she was part of the team that won the FA Cup in 2024 and played 21 matches in all competitions.
Her second season at United was harder on the pitch. She made only nine appearances and struggled to find a regular place in the starting line-up. The move to Club América will give her a fresh start and more chances to play regular football.
Before her transfer to Mexico, Geyse spent time on loan at Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States. During that season, she played 17 matches, scored two goals, and made two assists. She helped Gotham FC win the league championship, ending the year with a major trophy.
Gotham FC had an option to keep her on a permanent deal, but her loan ended in December and she returned to Manchester United. Now, instead of staying in England or going back to the NWSL, she has chosen a new path in Mexico with Club América.
Geyse’s time at Manchester United was affected by serious personal pain. During her stay in England, her brother died in a car accident. The club gave her compassionate leave so she could return home and be with her family at a very difficult time.
After some time away, she came back and played as a substitute in a match against Leicester City. Soon after that game, she posted on Instagram about how hard life at the club had become for her and how she was struggling to feel happy. Her message made many fans worry about her mental health and well-being.
Manchester United coach Marc Skinner spoke publicly after Geyse’s post. He said the club wanted to support her as a person, not just as a player, and that her health and peace of mind were very important. He stressed that the staff were focused on giving her the care she needed during such a painful period.
The move to Club América is seen as a chance for Geyse to restart her career in a new country and a new league. It may also help her find a better balance between football and her personal life after a tough spell in England.
While Geyse leaves, Manchester United are working on a deal to sign Ellen Wangerheim from Swedish club Hammarby. Wangerheim is a 21-year-old striker who has already played 138 matches for Hammarby. She has scored 65 goals for the club and has become one of the most exciting young forwards in her league.
Her strong record has drawn attention from several teams in the Women’s Super League. Manchester United hope that her eye for goal and her movement in the box will add more attacking power to their squad next season.
If Wangerheim agrees to join and signs her contract, she would become the third main striker at Manchester United. She would line up with Lea Schuller and Elisabeth Terland in the forward group, giving the coach more options in different systems.
The transfer is not finished yet. United and Wangerheim still need to agree on personal terms such as salary, contract length, and bonuses. The club is pushing to finalize the deal soon so that she can settle in and be ready for the new season after Geyse’s move to Club América.
