TSG Hoffenheim won 2-0 against Werder Bremen. New coach Eva-Maria Virsinger started with a strong result.
TSG Hoffenheim, led by new head coach Eva-Maria Virsinger, beat Werder Bremen 2-0 in their first official match. The game took place at Weserstadion in Bremen on January 27. Hoffenheim scored first through Alexander Prass in the 44th minute, with help from Kramarić. Then Grischa Prömel added the second goal in the 54th minute from close range.
Hoffenheim played with 10 players for almost 40 minutes after W Burger got a red card in the 52nd minute. Even with one less player, they held on and kept a clean sheet. Werder Bremen had more chances later but could not score. A goal by Romano Schmid was ruled out by VAR for offside.
This win is special for Virsinger, who just got her Pro License. She is one of only two women who passed among 17 people. Virsinger said the team worked hard in prep, including an internal test match. She knows Bremen plays a strong physical game with key players like Larissa Mühhaus.
Hoffenheim has more games soon. They face Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, February 4, then 1. FC Nürnberg on February 8. Virsinger is happy with the pitch and team shape. The transfer window is open, but she trusts the current players, even with Mara Alber now at Bremen.
Hoffenheim sits third in the league with 39 points from 19 games. Bremen is lower with 18 points. This win helps Hoffenheim push for a top spot and UEFA Champions League hopes.
