Matildas captain Sam Kerr has denied reports from Australia suggesting she will leave Chelsea for US club Denver Summit at the end of the season.
Speculation surrounding the club future of Matildas captain Sam Kerr has intensified following claims she will exit Chelsea when the current Women’s Super League season finishes. Australia's Network 10 reported that the forward has signed with Denver Summit, a new Colorado-based club. Kerr has spent six seasons with Chelsea, securing five Women’s Super League titles and three FA Cups. However, with her contract set to expire, there has been little discussion about a new deal.
The forward quickly dismissed the speculation. Taking to Snapchat, Kerr told her followers, "Don’t believe everything you read in the media man, they know a decision before me." Chelsea later supported her statement by retweeting her response through their official X channel.
Kerr's future at Chelsea has been uncertain, especially after returning from an ACL injury. Under coach Sonia Bompastor, the star has played a reduced role this season, often coming off the bench. Despite this, she has shown improvement, successfully leading Australia to the final of the Women’s Asian Cup.
A move to the US would mark a return for Kerr, who previously played for several NWSL clubs:
Denver Summit is emerging as a high-profile organization. The club boasts notable owners like US ski star Mikaela Shiffrin and NFL great Peyton Manning. They recently drew a record crowd of 63,004 fans for their match against the Washington Spirit.
Amid the speculation about her professional future, Kerr remains focused on her international duties. Coach Joe Montemurro has named a nearly full-strength squad for the upcoming window. Kerr will captain the Matildas in two international friendlies in Kenya later this month.
