Bayer 04 Leverkusen got goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe on the last day to sign players. The 25-year-old player from the German national team joins on loan from Liverpool FC.
This move gives Borggräfe a fresh start. She had problems in England. She got a six-match ban for a discriminatory comment at a photo session. She only played three games in the Women's Super League.
Borggräfe started at SC Freiburg. She made her pro debut at age 17. She stayed there for years, with a short loan at FC Aarau in Switzerland. She played 66 matches for Freiburg.
"I am very excited about my time at Bayer 04," Borggräfe said. She wants to take on duties and help the team win in the coming months. Sporting director Achim Feifel likes her growth and experience with Germany. He says she adds strength to the goalkeeper group.
