RB Leipzig's women's team is losing two important players this summer. National player Giovanna Hoffmann will not renew her contract, while Mai Kadowaki is heading to Japan on loan.
Giovanna Hoffmann, a key player for RB Leipzig, will not continue with the team after this season. The 27-year-old striker, who recently recovered from a serious injury, has chosen to leave the club as a free agent this summer.
Hoffmann has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury last October. Although she participated in the team's training camp in Portugal earlier this year, it was clear she would not return to play for Leipzig this season.
The club confirmed that Hoffmann decided against renewing her contract, allowing her to explore new opportunities. Viola Odebrecht, head of women's football at RB Leipzig, praised Hoffmann's growth and leadership during her time with the team.
While Hoffmann's next destination is still uncertain, there has been interest from clubs like VfL Wolfsburg. Reports suggest she is in talks with them, as well as other top teams. Hoffmann was also close to joining Manchester United last summer, but the transfer did not go through.
Hoffmann expressed her gratitude for her time at RB Leipzig, stating it was a difficult decision to leave. She appreciated the trust and support she received, which helped her grow into a national team player and leader.
In addition to Hoffmann's departure, Mai Kadowaki will be loaned to RB Omiya Ardija in Japan's WE League. The 24-year-old forward joined RB Leipzig from FC Rosengard earlier this year and has made 18 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring two goals in the DFB-Pokal.
