Bayer Leverkusen's captain Friederike Repohl has a knee injury. She will be out for at least two months.
Friederike Repohl left the field in tears after hurting her knee in the first half of the match. The injury happened when she twisted her knee while trying to play the ball. No opponent touched her.
Bayer 04 says Repohl has a partial tear of the medial ligament in her right knee. She needs at least two months to recover.
This is not a third cruciate ligament tear for Repohl. She had that injury twice before at Herforder SV. She joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 and soon became the starting goalkeeper.
Bayer 04 got Rafaela Borggräfe on loan from FC Liverpool because of Repohl's injury history this season. Borggräfe played her first match against Frankfurt. She did well but had some timing problems. She had a suspension in England before but wants to learn from it.
Repohl's contract with Bayer 04 ends after this season. It is not clear if she will stay with the team.
