Manchester United won 4-1 away at Aston Villa. This match was in the Women's Super League.
Manchester United beat Aston Villa 4-1 at Villa Park on Sunday. The team showed good play in the Women's Super League.
Coach Marc Skinner changed two players from the last game against Arsenal. Lea Schüeller and Melvine Malard started. Elisabeth Terland and Simi Awujo sat on the bench at first. Aston Villa coach Natalia Arroyo also made changes. Rachel Maltby did not start, and young Georgia Mullett played from the beginning.
Manchester United took control from the start, just as Skinner asked. They had the ball a lot and tried to attack. But many attacks did not lead to shots on goal. Aston Villa's Kirsty Hanson tried first with a long shot, but it missed. United's new player Ellen Wangerheim had a good chance but shot over the bar.
Around 30 minutes in, United scored. Julia Zigiotti Olme sent a sharp cross from the left that went into the net. Villa keeper Ellie Roebuck had no chance. But Aston Villa answered fast. Kirsty Hanson tricked everyone and scored at the near post to make it 1-1.
In the second half, Manchester United kept control. Aston Villa's attacks, mostly from Hanson, happened less. Lea Schüeller almost scored for United but missed by a bit. Villa's Georgia Mullett had a chance too, but nothing came of it.
Skinner brought in new players: Elisabeth Terland, Hanna Lundkvist, and later Lisa Naalsund. Jess Park made a good chance, but Lucy Parker blocked the shot.
Near the end, Manchester United scored three quick goals. First, after a header from Malard, Elisabeth Terland scored with her right foot. Roebuck touched it but could not stop it. Villa tried back, but Phallon Tullis-Joyce saved well against Ebony Salmon.
Soon after, Jess Park went past two defenders and put the ball in the corner. Hanna Lundkvist finished with a close tap-in to make it 4-1.
