Reena Wichmann is leaving SV Werder Bremen after 13 years. She signed with VfB Stuttgart until 2027.
Reena Wichmann joined SV Werder Bremen in 2013 at age 15. She started in the U17 team and made her Bundesliga debut in 2016. She played 160 matches for the club.
After almost 13 years, with one short year in the USA, Wichmann is leaving Bremen. She said she loved wearing the Werder shirt and thanked the club for her time there.
Birte Brüggemann, head of women's football at Werder, said the departure is emotional. She noted Wichmann will leave a gap in the team but the club supports her wish for a new challenge.
At Werder, Wichmann helped the team stay in the Frauen-Bundesliga. The club has not faced relegation since 2020. She remembers exciting games at Weserstadion and a good cup run last season.
The 28-year-old midfielder signed with VfB Stuttgart until 2027. Stuttgart plays in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga and wants to move up to the Bundesliga. Wichmann wants to join the team and help reach that goal.
